THE winners of the 20th annual IT Sports tennis finals were Fulford pair Jill McCreedy and Jill Rounce.

McCreedy and Rounce beat club-mates Anna Baker and Di Ekers in the final at Fulford as part of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League end-of-season event.

Viv Williamson and Jane Pemberton, of Cliffe, finished fourth after losing 4-3 to Fulford duo Pauline Craddock and Lisa Garland.

The Beryl Bean Rose Bowl title went to Tollerton’s Ed Hope and Sandra Jennings, who beat reigning champions Jennings and Hope 4-3 in the final.

Dunnington’s Barbara Plummer and Liz Stacey edged out Fulford’s Pam Mason and Evelyn Atkinson for third place.

The end of season trophy presentation was also held at Fulford, with local tennis stalwarts Christine Place and Margaret Whitehead handing out the gongs.

TEEN power came to the party for Faye Garland and Joanne Middleton to be crowned the IT Sports Ladies doubles tennis champions.

The teenage duo rattled up 22 games to win the crown after they beat Poppleton's Rosie Cantrell and Hilary Spencer, Fulford's Jill McCreedy and Helen Cozens, Copmanthorpe duo Fiona Robinson and Rhian Scott and Cliffe pairing Jane Pemerton and Kelly Holmes. McCreedy and Cozens, who won 18 games, were runners-up.

The Over-55s veterans' champions were Dunnington pairing Sue Sumner and Linda Molloy, who were in sparkling form.

They toppled Pauline Hull and Lyn Minto (Sheriff Hutton), Anne Storer and Paddy McJannett (Knaresborough) and club-mates Caryl Raven and Anne Murray to give them a 21-game haul. Storer and McJannett were runners-up.
